    For long, the world gave much importance to Intelligence Quotient (IQ). We have been conditioned to believe that IQ is the best measure of human potential. In the past 10 years, however, researchers revealed findings in neuroscience and psychology that challenged the very foundation of western thought and stressed the importance of Emotional Quotient (EQ). Experts argued that EQ was a basic requirement for the use of IQ and might be a greater predictor of success both in life and in career.
    In summary, Emotional Quotient is the ability to sense, understand, and effectively apply the power and acumen of emotions as a source of human energy, information, connection, and influence. This makes us aware of our feelings and that of others. It gives empathy, motivation, compassion, and an ability to respond skillfully to pleasure and pain. People with high EQ can recognize what they feel and know how to use their feelings as tools: making good decisions, man- aging relationships, motivating themselves, adjusting themselves to surroundings, maintaining hope in the face of frustration, discerning the nuances of feelings and using them in positive way, controlling anxiety, and sharing empathy and compassion.
    Emotional Quotient accompanies our daily lives and shapes the path of our lives, our emotional actions and reactions affect who we are and control whether or not we are able to achieve our goals. Having control over your emotions allows you to achieve your potential.
    In a word, a high IQ is necessary but not sufficient for leading a healthy, satisfying, and fulfilling life. You may have a high Intelligence Quotient, but if your Emotional Quotient is low, you will have difficulty in negotiating, influencing others or winning the rewards you deserve. There tore, EQ is the greatest predictor of what you’ll accomplish in life. It is EQ, not IQ that can help you in life and work.
