Some people vigorously protested lack of control over automobile exhaust fumes, industrial smoke, unhealthy open dumps, untreated sewage, and chemical wastes that were being thrown into lakes and rivers. The agency was created to control and abate pollution in the basic areas of air, water, solid waste, pesticides, noise, and radiation. The government offers incentives to encourage cleanup efforts, and law enforcement when necessary to curb pollution.

The agency of environment protection also enforces noise standards for trucks and airplanes.
