There are no large scale industrialization plans for the island.     Recently there is a report carried in Shanghai Star about Chongming that is the country’s third largest island and Shanghai’s "last piece of pristine land. " It is stated that a decade-long development plan is being made excluding large scale industrialization plans for the island. Although there will be room for certain pollution-free industries, the major future development will focus on tourism, resorts and exhibition centres.
    It is a cheering news, especially to the citizens who live in Shanghai—the most populous city of China. In this metropolitan city, when people have got leisure time, it is a problem for them to choose the place of entertainment. We can see the city has been thronged with people, and the population is much bigger in holidays than usual. Is it a good idea to go to neighboring cities? The result is similar to the former status, being crowed with people everywhere. In addition to that, the long journey will make people feel extremely weary. However, with the development of Chongming island, people in Shanghai will have a best resort area to spend their holidays.
    We have made the conclusion from experience of years that the development of a city shouldn’t be limited in economic construction, but should keep balance and harmony. The life in modern city such as Shanghai is busy and tense, people are longing for places where relaxation and reeducation can be offered. The knowledge people gain from nature is as important as that from books. After the decade-long development plan is realized, resorts and exhibition centres will magnetize Shanghai people to flock to Chongming island. At that time, it is unnecessary for them to waste time and energy on long journey any more. On this pristine land, people will enjoy fresh air, being far from pollution and noise. I’m convinced that this beautiful prospect will become true soon.
