Recently, there has been a heated discussion in a newspaper as to what is the criterion for a teacher’s ability. As this is a controversial as well as a thought-provoking issue, opinions vary from person to person.
According to a recent survey conducted by an educational organization in China, 63 percent of respondents think that teaching is the first task of a teacher. If a teacher can make complicated problems simplified in the classroom, then he or she is a qualified teacher. If a teacher is not good at teaching, then he or she has to say goodbye to the teaching post.
However, 37 percent of respondents argue that the criterion for a teacher’s ability is scientific research. If a teacher can publish several research papers a year, he or she is a qualified one. A teacher from a famous university who has published very few works has to say goodbye to her teaching post.
In my opinion, there are many criteria for a teacher’s ability, e. g. a teacher’s enthusiasm for teaching, outstanding teaching quality and strong ability to go in for scientific research. In addition, patience, responsibility and a noble morality should also be included in a teacher’s ability.
