问题 You will now read a short passage and then listen to a talk on the same topic. You will then be asked a question about them. After you hear the question, you will have 30 seconds to prepare your response and 60 seconds to speak.
A Proposal from a Student
I would like to propose that the university should make available to incoming freshmen their future roommate’s contact information (e-mail, phone, etc.) Doing this will afford students a couple of considerable benefits. The first of these is that it will serve as a sort of "ice-breaker." Contacting future roommates before the beginning of school will enable students to get along with each other earlier and have at least one friend on campus when they arrive. Another very large benefit is that knowing each other allows for more efficient planning of your life together. Dorm rooms are small, so planning together avoids wasting space and reduplicating each other’s efforts.
Now hear a conversation between two students.
Question: The woman expresses her opinion about the proposal offering contact information for upcoming students living in the dormitory. State her opinion and explain the reasons she gives for holding that opinion.
M: Hi Sasha. Did you hear the college might start telling new students their roommate’s name, phone, and e-mail before everyone shows up on campus?
W: I think it is a great idea. You know, it really takes us a lot of time to get familiar with each other. If there are going to be problems, you’ll know about it before hand.
M: Yeap, I know what you mean. I used to have trouble with my roommate last semester because I couldn’t stand her smoking and drinking all the time.
W: That’s why I think the idea is so great. I mean this way, you get to meet your roommate and know about each other before you arrive. And if you feel like you can’t get along you’re your roommate, you can ask to change to another person and therefore save you a lot of trouble. So I guess, this proposal would help us find a good roommate.
M: My roommate now is OK. I mean we get along great. Only, we both tried to bring everything we owned from home.
W: That’s another part I like about this proposal. I mean if we had been in touch in advance, we could have planned the dorm together. That’s right! Like, you bring the coffee pot, and I’ll bring the DVD player. So I don’t have to bring everything another girl could bring. You know, when we move in, there just isn’t enough room for everything. If I had been in touch with my roommate before, we could have discussed what to bring.
M: That’s great!

答案 The letter proposes that the college should tell new students their roommate’s name and contact information before they attend school.
The woman in the conversation supports the suggestion for two major reasons.
The one is that, if roommates are in contact before they arrive, they have a chance to become acquainted. This will let them find out if they can get along, or if they will have problems living with each other.
The second reason is that future roommates can decide what each should bring. A common problem is reduplication: the room has two TV’s, two coffee pots, etc. If they plan in advance, the problem can be avoided. This will lead to the two roommates having enough room to live comfortably.
