   Winston Churchill once said, "We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give." What he meant is that a meaningful life is defined by our contribution rather than demand. From my perspective, this argument can be justified in the following aspects.
   To begin with, making contributions to the society caters to our psychological needs. When we make others’ life easier by giving up some of our comforts, the subsequent happiness will definitely justify the previous sacrifice. Moreover, taking and giving are inseparable when all the members of a community are taken into consideration. Mutually taking and giving can be better interpreted as sharing, which is an appropriate way to reasonably distribute the resource among the community members. In this sense, making contributions is more a natural choice than a moral one; that is, it’s a basic requirement of our existence.
   Based on the above analysis, we can conclude that giving is greatly appreciated in terms of the needs of individuals, communities and nations.
