    The Chinese government is now encouraging university students to work as village officials after graduation. This policy, however, has sparked a heated debate.
    To some extent, both students and rural residents benefit from the program. Students, can get priority in applying for new jobs in government departments after several years of service in rural areas. They can get more hands-on experience. Moreover, updated information as well as modern technology brought by those students may help to boost the local economy and education.
    However, problems cannot be overlooked. First, some university graduates may become frustrated and disoriented in a new environment, which is harmful to their personal development. Second , due to their immaturity and lack of experience, what they can contribute to the local area may not live up to people’s expectations; therefore, the program is not worth our efforts.
    As far as I am concerned, I would suggest that students should not work in rural areas right after graduation, because I believe they are not competent enough for this job. It may be wiser to encourage those university graduates to work as interns before they become village officials.
