    The bar chart illustrates the time spent on housework by different people between 1992 and 2012. Generally speaking, it took women more time to do housework than men. From 1992 to 2002 the time spent by women declined while the time spent by men didn’t change. The hours used for household chores increased from 2002 to 2012, regardless of gender. In addition, women who didn’t have a job or had a part-time job spent a lot of time doing housework.
    There are several factors contributing to this phenomenon. Firstly, certain measures were taken to bar the gender discrimination so that women’s status in workplace and family got improved between 1992 and 2002. Hence, during this period women spent fewer time on household chores. Secondly, those unemployed or part-time working women had more time to do the housework compared with those full-time working women or men.
    As far as I’m concerned, in a family, who does the housework should depend on who has more time and is more interested in it.
