    Recently it is reported that, there is no need for university students to pass CET4 before they obtain their diploma any more. This news gives rise to much discussion in the society. Some people hold the view that the students will neglect their English study as a result of this decision. But the opinions vary from person to person.
    In my point of view, we university students will benefit a lot from this policy. To begin with, we may have more time to do some research in our major fields, which is also very important to our development. What’s more, they can study English more initiatively. What we really need is a language can be used as a tool of communication, not test-oriented English.
    In a word, I think that although CET4 has played an important role in spurring students to study hard, it is not sensible to regard it as an essential requirement in getting the diploma.
