Indonesia government officials and leaders of separatist rebels in the province of Aceh are to meet for peace talks at Helsinki this week. Confirmation of the talks came from the office of the former Finish President Martti Ahtisaari who heads a group which works to resolve conflict. It followed another announcement from the head of the Indonesia military that troops had stopped attacking rebels in Aceh. Although both sides agreed on an informal ceasefire after the Indian Ocean tsunami, clashes continued.
