    It is widely believed that the value of universities lies in imparting knowledge to the students, and what’s more, a lot of attention is being drawn to the academic level of universities. Many people strongly advocate it owing to the famous saying by Francis Bacon "Knowledge is power." However, on the question whether knowledge should be the only focus in universities, people’s ideas vary.
    On the one hand, some people hold the view that students’ main task is to study. Only by doing so can they face the fierce competition after graduation. On the other hand, a great many people insist that it is essential for universities to cultivate students’ personalities and ability to think independently, because knowledge is almost being updated every minute, and what really counts in this fast-changing society is a good character and the ability to learn and think.
    As far as I am concerned, both knowledge and personality are crucial. Only by acquiring professional knowledge and the capability to think, learn, communicate and cooperate with others can we be successful in the world. Therefore, it is time that we put an end to this argument and set our mind on acquiring knowledge and cultivating our characters and abilities.
