Families in almost every country are changing. In North Africa, in the past, many people lived in extended families. Fifty to a hundred people live together in a group of houses.
These were all family members—grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, children and grandchildren. But now this traditional family is breaking into smaller groups.
The traditional Japanese family was also an extended family—a son, his parents, his wife, his children, and his unmarried brothers and sisters. They lived together in his parents’ home. But this tradition is changing. Now most families are nuclear families. They have new problems. Most men spend a lot of time on the job. They don’t see their families often. Many married women feel lonely. Their husbands are almost never home; their children are at school. Sometimes these women get jobs or join cultural groups.
In Europe, in traditional nuclear families, the wife stayed home with the children. The husband had a job. But many Europeans are unhappy with this kind of family, and the traditions are changing. The number of divorces is going up. The number of single-parent families is going up too. In Sweden, more than 40 percent of all children have unmarried mothers.
There are also big changes in Canada. In 1965, a traditional nuclear family was important. Almost 90 percent of men and 93. 5 percent of women were married. But in 1985, only 49 percent of men and 51. 6 percent of women were married! Now more than one-third of all babies have unmarried mothers. More than one-third of all marriages end in divorce.
Some people are unhappy about these changes. But they need to understand one thing. We can’t really say, "These new families are bad. " or "These new families are good. " They are just different. The world is changing, and families are changing too. [br] The main problem with Japanese families is that______.
选项
A、children have to stay in school all day long
B、the father spends very little time at home
C、the mother cannot work outside the home
D、parents have different ideas about child raising
答案
B
解析
第二段中出现了好几个句子:(1)Most men spend a lot of time on the job.(2)Theydon’t see their families often…(3)Their husbands are almost never home.反复强调现代日本家庭中的男人、父亲在家里待的时间太少,以至于他们的妻子感到非常孤独(manymarried women feel lonely.),所以B是正确答案。
