答案                  Looking Forward to the New Reform of College English in China
     With the advent of the computer age, all kinds of advanced English courseware have sprung up like mushrooms. In some people’s view, the production and introduction of various kinds of English courseware mean that students can teach themselves English. They even think that English teachers can be replaced by electronic courseware. I don’t agree with them. College students to teach themselves English by means of courseware is really a challenge to their teachers, but they still need their teachers’ advice. For example, what some students choose may be either too easy or too difficult for them. In class, their teacher can give them some advice on what kinds of courseware are suitable for their levels and what are not. In addition, classroom communication is indispensable to their English learning. If students don’t go to the classroom, they will lose their opportunity to communicate with their teachers and with classmates in class. In my opinion, combining courseware with traditional English teaching methods is absolutely necessary. But if we stress too much the role of courseware in English teaching and learning and even abandon our traditional teaching methods, it will be unfavorable to the English teaching reform in China.
