    Nowadays it is not uncommom to see that more and more Chinese people tend to celebrate western holidays, which aroused many debates. Among these debates, one worthy of our paying attention to is whether we should preserve our conventional holidays in modern China. Some people argue that Chinese conventional holidays are the symbol of our culture, what we should do is to preserve and improve it in-stead of cancelling it. While others, especially young people, hold the idea that western holidays symbol-ize the fashion and advancement, whereas some of our holidays are already out-of-date.
    In my opinion, there are good reasons for both of their ideas.For one thing, China is stepping into an era of globalization and the connection between China and foreign countries are becoming increasingly close. So an inevitable fact is that our life styles are dramatically influenced by western culture. We can often see that on Saint Valentine’s Day and Christmas, many young people give parties to celebrate it.For another, China is a country with long history, our tradition and culture are so valuable that it is unwise to forget them. Just because we can have got our own culture, we are in possession of our own characters. Chinese culture is a rare legacy that we leave to our posterity. Along with Chinese international status’ upgrade, foreign culture is influenced by ours too.A good exmaple is that many foreigners are learning Chinese language.
    So I can make a conclusion that extreme concept on the problem of culture is not appropriate. Various types of culture should be kept in harmonious way.
