答案     Competition has become a noticeable feature of modern society. Its influence，both helpful and harmful, on the social development is great.
    Generally speaking, competition brings prosperity to society. By giving reward to the high-achievers and eliminating the losers, the society can run more efficiently and in better order. Also, competition emphasizes the capability of the individuals regardless of their class background, wealth or power. As a result, competition not only promotes social mobility, but also strengthens the idea of equality of opportunity.
    But it cannot be denied that unfair competition is still prevalent in many sectors of our society. The exertion of the political power and parental influence turn out a big obstacle to further development. So, what is called for urgently now is a fair and open environment for competition.  Only with that can our country achieve faster progress and generate more prosperity in the international competition.
