They enroll in language training courses, or register for postgraduate programs. The MBA or MPA programs, in particular, are gaining more and more popularity. Why do so many people rush back to school?
    One reason is that in the knowledge-based economy age adaptability and lifelong learning are the cornerstone of success. Therefore, people would go back to school to get recharged in terms of knowledge. Another reason is in such a highly competitive era, one’s education background, to a great extent, determines one’s career opportunities. The higher skill one claims, the more marketable he is.
    Generally speaking, this degree or certificate rush will boost our nation’s economic growth, for with more competent employers, the governments and the firms could be run more efficiently and productively. But on the dark side, the increase of enrollment may give backing to utilitarianism, leading to a decline of education quality.
