- Do sportsmen and women make good role models for young people? Why or why not?
I think most sportsmen and sportswomen are really positive role model for young people. You know, be it individual events or team events, competition is at the core of sports. So sportsmen and sportswomen can always inspire the young to realize their dreams by working hard. Different from individual events, team events can teach the young to work with others and enhance their teamwork ability. Besides, at some world events they represent not only themselves but also the whole nation to compete with athletes from other countries. So they can also teach the young from their very action to love their homeland and truly know the great importance of patriotism.
- Are we too concerned with the sports stars rather than the sports themselves?
To a degree, I think the public pay much more attention to the sports stars than the sports themselves. The truth is, more often than not, we focus more on how many medals the sports stars will win than how the physical education can be improved. We make them heroes and even gossip about their private lives once they win medals for the country. But we hardly know about the sports themselves, let alone the awareness of regular exercises. Ironically, the sports stars win more and more medals, while the physical condition among the ordinary gets worse and worse.
- Why do you think sports stars are paid so much? Is this justified? Why or why not?
I don’t think sports stars are overpaid. It is reasonable because they create much more values than we thought. And it must be put clear that doing sports is not a life-time career. Athletes often pay tough work before they win medals and they may seriously get hurt in training and games. Many athletes choose to retire in their thirties or even younger because of aggravated physical condition. So the professional peak for athletes is rather short. What’s worse, many of them are trained ever since childhood and training then becomes everything of their daily life. That’s to say, to retire means losing the only source of income. If they are paid less, young athletes will be discouraged from devoting themselves to sports.

- Do you think people are happy to stay in the same job for a long time these days?
No, I don’t think people now are willing to stay in the same job for long. Nowadays, people are living at an increasingly faster pace. They need changes to keep track with the times. If they stay in the same nine-to-five routine work for a long time, they will become numb and take the current job for granted and stop keep going. The fast mobility of labour is a proof that people are unhappy to stay in the same job for a long time. Changing jobs can help them recognise what they truly want, increase their salary and achieve greater job satisfaction.
- What types of jobs are popular these days? Why?
Nowadays, technology-related jobs are becoming more and more popular. With the rapid development of E-commerce and globalisation, technology support is badly needed and employees with technological expertise are in short supply. So IT technicians and software designers are gaining increasing popularity among employers. They are well-paid and their jobs are considered decent by the majority of society. So more and more college students choose tech-related discipline as their major so that they can work in these highly-paid fields after graduation.
- Which jobs do you think will be popular in the future? Why?
Well, I do think farm-related jobs may become popular in the future. With the fast development of urbanisation, farmers are flooding into cities. So we can imagine that there will be much fewer labours willing to work in rural areas. But in the post-urbanisation period, these forgotten areas will be the ideal shelter for city dwellers who want to get rid of the fast-paced city life. At that time, farming will be a huge potential market and those farm-related jobs may return to its glorious past.
