The percentage of the British students able to speak German remained constant at 10%.
Meanwhile, for those who spoke no foreign language, the figure had dropped sharply from a fifth in 2000 to a tenth in 2010. Following a similar, albeit less dramatic, falling trend were those whose only other language than English was French — from 15% to 10%.
