The United States pressured Mexico to step up detentions of migrants after the number of unaccompanied children arriving at the U. S. border soared to more than 44, 500 in the first six months of 2014. Last year, Mexican authorities apprehended nearly 36,000 children, more than half of whom were unaccompanied. By comparison, Mexico detained just 9, 600 children in 2013.

After a decade of planning, six years of construction and a 16-month closure, the Yale Center for British Art — one of the half-dozen or so masterpieces designed by the Philadelphia architect Louis Kahn during the last 15 years of his life — reopens to the public on May 11. And for those who have loved this award-winning museum since it first opened in 1977, showcasing Paul Mellon’s superb collection of British art, the good news is that you can barely see the difference.
