            The Most Important Personal Quality of a University Student

答案             The Most Important Personal Quality of a University Student
    When my eyes caught this topic, my mind began its search for the most important one from many options such as honesty, creativity, fortitude, diligence, etc. Then the best choice—teamwork spirit— occurred to me. Why does teamwork spirit count so much? How does it set itself off from other qualities which are of absolutely immense but relatively less importance?
    Before answering this question, I want to remind you of a story of ancient China. It is about three monks. The first monk lived alone in a temple far away from the river which was his only water source. He carried water for himself every day. Later came the second monk and then they shared a pole to carry water together. Soon a third monk joined them. Surprisingly, the participation of one more person brought them thirst instead of more water. Since the pole could not be shared by three men, each insisted that the other two should go to carry water. Consequently none had water to drink. This story simply proves the importance of teamwork: united, we succeed; divided, we fail. The conventional wisdom holds true for our situation.
    First, teamwork spirit enables a university student to fit in at work more smoothly. With the rapid technological specialization and social development, more and more tasks need to be accomplished with collaborative efforts. So, in the present-day society, we are more likely to succeed by working well with colleagues in a group. If a group is like a machine composed of many a part, teamwork spirit is just the lubrication which ensures its good running. Armed with it, we university graduates can closely cooperate with others and better fulfdl our duty.
    Second, teamwork spirit maximizes individual value. However sweet a drip of dew is, it cannot stop your thirst; however luminous a firebug is, it cannot light your way; however powerful a finger is, it cannot give a punch. But if combined with its kind, each can achieve beyond itself. Just as the saying goes, many straws may bind an elephant—left alone, a straw is still a straw, to be trampled on.   All these tell us that union is strength.  Therefore, teamwork spirit can instill power into an individual and help him realize his potential to the utmost extent.
    Of course, there are other qualities vital for a graduate’s future success, but they have to come after teamwork spirit, for all those qualities shine brightly with teamwork spirit and all of them dim without it. Therefore, to be successful in the present-day society, university graduates should first have teamwork spirit.
