      It is not unusual for Chinese children to get money from their parents, grandparents or relatives during the Spring Festival.  This money is often called "Lucky Money", which conveys certain messages of a peaceful year and good fortune to the children. As a traditional long - standing custom, it has good reason to survive among us for such a long time. However, with the improvement of living standard,, the average sum of "Lucky Money" to children is often 10 times the amount given in the late 1980% The meaning of "Lucky Money" has become different from what it originally meant.  
     Children nowadays have been deeply affected by this custom. More and more children begin to compete for riches with others when they return to school. They will have a sense of superiority if they receive more money. With the money in their pockets they will naturally think that they deserve abundant food and beautiful toys no matter how much they cost. They don’t know exactly how to spend money on necessary things. So most likely, the money will be wasted.
     To conclude, it is not good for children to have much money at their disposal. Too much money at their hands may alter their sense of values and outlook on life. So we should change our ways of expressing good wishes by giving money, or at least there should be more instruction from parents on how to use the money wisely.
