答案
Will Phones Kill Letter Writing?
Nowadays, more and more young people tend to phone more often than write to each other. As a result, some people are worried that phones will kill letter writing. However, I don’t think their concern is necessary in that letter writing has some exclusive advantages over phones.
First of all, it costs less to send a letter than to phone, especially when a person you want to communicate with lives in another place. In general, you spend no more than 1 yuan on a letter. But usually it costs you at least several yuan or more to phone a person. Second, there are many circumstances where letters are more appropriate or feasible than phone calls. For example, if you invite one of your good friends to attend your wedding, it’s better to send him a letter of invitation than just to phone him. Last but not least, letters are often written in a more logical and organized way. During the course of writing a letter, you would weigh your words carefully. By contrast, during a phone conversation, you speak out of your ideas without mature thought.
Taking the above factors into consideration, phones cannot take the place of letters. Either of them has its own advantages and disadvantages.
