Obtaining a mix of certificates shows the employer that the owner does not really know about his likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses. Blindly pursuing more certificates may turn out painful results in vain.    With the job market growing increasingly competitive, being certified has become a trend among job-seeking youth. Some are in favor of such a practice for it can enrich college students’ life, gaining an edge over other competitors and boosting certificate owners’ confidence. Some strongly object to it for it will cost us a lot of time, money and energy. What’s worse, those certificates can be totally impractical and useless when college students take up a job after graduation. In my opinion, ability is of greater importance than certificates.
   The ultimate goal of obtaining certificates is to gain advantages over other competitors in job hunting. However, interviewers rarely offer a job by means of a certificate. A series of interviewing procedures will be conducted to test the comprehensive abilities of an interviewee. A certificate is only one of the primary qualifications for the interviewee to get involved in the following rounds of interview. Still, a man with a bunch of certificates can not be hired by employers if he is incapable to do the work. On the contrary, one with rich working experience can leave a deep impression on interviewers, despite few certificates on hand. It is the excellent working abilities that gain a job hunter an edge.
   It is advisable that all certificates should be attained for the sake of necessity rather than for certificates’ sake. Undisputedly, certificates can attest your abilities. Nevertheless, abilities speak louder than certificates.
