    With the convenience of the Internet, the mixed marriage is not only about love, it’s about the whole package you can get from it. People involved in it get a shortcut to blend into the mainstream, which brings them huge advantages to advance their careers, especially in corporations, the language and culture advantages.
    Besides, an interracial marriage has its own benefits. With a couple from different countries bound together in wedlock, they could improve their understanding of the history, culture, and customs of each other’s countries. They might learn some advantages from each other’s cultures, consequently, blending into another culture more easily.

    Although a mixed marriage may seem as dreamily beautiful as a fairy tale, the tale is often based on romantic imagination rather than on reality. Different cultures, tastes, life experiences, eating and living habits like strong waves, may wash the dream away as soon as the weather becomes stormily.
    Asian cultures prefer the solidarity within the family. People tend to be interdependent and supportive. In contrast, western culture is rooted in individualism. The Chinese are often rudely disillusioned by such discoveries after their marriages. Thus a mixed marriage is not a shortcut to blend into another culture.

    In recent years, there have been more and more intercultural marriages. Some people believe that mixed marriages will offer an insight into an alien culture, history and customs which may help people integrate into another culture. However, others argue that cultural differences are hard to get over. Personally, I don’t think a mixed marriage is a shortcut to another culture.
    Firstly, cultural conflicts, rather than cultural differences, have become stumbling blocks in the way to another culture. However, a mixed marriage is never an effective way to eliminate the conflicts. Instead, there have always been more conflicts when dealing with the problems in marriage about children’s education and parents-in-laws. These problems, unlike living and eating habits, are difficult to tackle and will inevitably influence the foundation of intercultural marriages. Secondly, many people enjoy a relatively high social position in their homeland. When living abroad, their glorious past is long gone. They often indulge themselves in recalling their happy past and feelings of resentment arise. In this regard, intercultural marriages do not seem to impose more positive effects on involving into another culture than studying and working abroad do.
    In conclusion, there is no doubt that an intercultural marriage has its own benefits. However, it is far from a shortcut for people to blend into another culture. An in-depth understanding of another culture and active involvement into the foreign society are better ways.
