   Currently, we have a hot debate over whether we should put more emphasis on friends and popularity or top grades. Some people hold that having a lot of friends and being popular is more important, while others hold that getting top grades in school is more important. But from my perspective, we should achieve a balance between friendship and learning, both of which will have a profound impact on our personal development.
   On the one hand, the importance of friends is self-evident. When we encounter difficulties, we will have the help of friends; when we meet setbacks, we will have the encouragement of friends; when we face troubles, we will have the comfort of friends. On the other hand, what matters equally is students’ good performance in school. Top grades in learning can consolidate students’ knowledge and skills and enhance students’ self-confidence, which has great potential for future development of students.
   In short, top grades and friendship complement each other, each of which can promote the other to develop. With friends and popularity, we can achieve cooperative learning, thus attaining top scores and genuine friendship. The fact is that we can benefit from a combination of these two aspects to maximize mutual development.
