    Many Chinese college students find it awkward to describe their English language skills.     Causes to the mute English are various. Among them examination-oriented education should be the first to blame. Chinese students regard English as nothing more than a test subject, so there is no need to waste much time in practicing it orally. In addition, Chinese students are afraid of making mistakes when speaking English, so they would rather keep quiet. The less they speak English, the more mistakes they would make when they have to speak, which becomes a vicious cycle.
