M: I was young once myself, you know. I know what it’s like to be young.
W: But you don’t know what it’s like to grow up in our world, Mr Perkins. You had a brave new world to fight for, didn’t you? But what have we got to look forward to? Pollution and the population explosion..., if we’re not destroyed first by the H-bomb!
M: We’ll survive, Susan. The young will realise the world one day. They’ll learn and grow up.
W: You think we should grow up to be like you, don’t you? You sometimes laugh at us when we talk about universal love and understanding between people! When people demonstrate about what is happening in other countries, you say, "What right do they have to interfere? It’s none of their business!" But it is our business, Mr Perkins.
M: But international demonstrations only make misunderstandings worse. A lot of you are so sure you’ve got the answer to everything. You won’t accept guidance at all from older people.
W: Mr Perkins, it’s very difficult for older people to give proper guidance these days. They didn’t have the same kind of problems. That’s what the generation gap is all about.
M: Well, I don’t think the generation gap in this country is as great as you make it out to be. In fact, I suspect you go to your mother for advice just as often as you go to friends of your own age!
W: Perhaps you are right. But, Mr Perkins, I’m almost frightened of getting older! Will I be talking like this to my children one day?

选项 A、When the young demonstrate about what the generation gap is.
B、When the young discuss universal love and understanding between people.
C、When the young talk about pollution and the population explosion.
D、When the young complain about the misunderstandings from the old..

答案 B

解析 男士说年轻人总有一天会认识这个世界,并且说年轻人要学会生存和了解社会,女士话中的反意疑问句You think we should grow up to be like you, don’t you?表明了她不想成为男士那样的人,并且还抱怨男士说,每次他们talk about universal love andunderstanding between people(谈论人与人之间的博爱和理解)时,男士总是嘲笑他们这些年轻人,由此可知答案为B)。
