This reality poses a fundamental question: Will the United States remain a country with a single national language and a core culture? By ignoring this question, Americans acquiesce (默认)to their eventual transformation into two peoples with two cultures and two languages.
    The impact of Mexican on the United States becomes evident when One imagines what would happen if Mexican immigration abruptl5 stopped. The annual flow of legal immigrants would drop by about 175000 closer to the level recommended by the 1900s Commission on Immigration Reform chaired by former US congresswoman Barbara Jordan. Illegal entries would decrease dramatically. The wages of low-income US citizens would improve. The inflow of immigrants would again become highly different, creating increased stimulations for all immigrants to learn English and absorb US culture. And most important of all, the possibility of an actual split between a predominantly Spanish-speaking US and an English speaking US would disappear, and with it, a major threat to the country’s cultural and political integrity.
