    It is widely acknowledged that people’s living conditions have been greatly improved in recent years. However, many people do not feel happy in spite of the rising income. It is often reported that more and more people suffer from depression and even commit suicide.
    Happiness is a very fuzzy concept and can mean different things to different people. Studies have found that factors like money, education or social status do not affect happiness in the way one might expect, which can effectively explain the current phenomenon. Some people even remark that happiness does not really exist but is imaginary. They think that people are always longing for what they haven’t got. But for me, happiness lies in contentment. There are many reasons accounting for my argument.
    Firstly, I’m content with who I’m, as I’m special and unique in the world. Secondly, I’m satisfied with what I have. My family, friends, freedom and good health are all invaluable to me. Thirdly, I’m grateful at present. It is impossible to develop contentment without gratitude—they are inseparable. All in all, happiness is a choice and it depends on ourselves to be happy or not.
解析     第一段开门见山提出目前存在的一种现象，尽管人们的生活水平有了很大的提高，但很多人却感到不幸福，不时有患抑郁症和自杀的报道。本段最后一句用It作形式主语，避免了头重脚轻。
    第二段阐述了幸福的概念，不同人对于幸福有着不同的理解，有些人会觉得得不到的反倒是最好的。此段也表明了作者自己的幸福观，即知足常乐。
