    The above picture vividly describes a common phenomenon in Chinese families. Since the implementation of the family planning policy, the only child has become the king or queen of the family, doing whatever he or she wants. In my view, such upbringing can only destroy rather than educate a child.
    Firstly, spoiled children are in great lack of capability of independent living. Some of them are even not able to wear clothes, wash face or eat by themselves at school age. Secondly, spoiled children tend to be more selfish. They usually have no consciousness to share with others, lacking team spirit and a sense of responsibility. Thirdly, spoiled children tend to care too much for material comforts, lacking the virtue of thrift.
    In conclusion, today’s children are the hopes of their families and the future of our nation. We are duty-bound to love them. However, this kind of love should be moderate and with strict principles. Parents’ final purpose is to make the children grow into healthy and responsible citizens, thus it is inadvisable for them to dote on the children.
