答案  There are very large differences. Cities have more facilities, particularly health, education and entertainment. This means that most people—especially younger people—find city life more fun and varied. Cities are very crowded, highly polluted and often suffer from traffic jams. The countryside has fewer people, cleaner air and much less traffic. I say that the countryside has cleaner air, but it’s not clean! Just better than in the cities. A lot of small industries have moved to rural areas. This is good in one way because it provides employment, but it’s bad for the environment there. The air pollution isn’t too bad, but the water pollution is sometimes horrific.
A lot of people disagree with me, but I don’t really see much of a difference. Most people, regardless of whether they live in rural or urban areas, seem to be quite materialistic. This tends to make them a little selfish. A lot of people are introverted and not friendly to people they don’t know. I don’t mean that they are unfriendly—just not friendly either. I think that people’s personalities have less to do with where they are from and more to do with other things.
I would prefer to live in the countryside, but I hope that the medical facilities are better there by the time I retire. The main thing about living in the countryside, as far as I’m concerned, is that it is more peaceful and you can see natural scenery without having to travel for an hour by bus or by car. Of course, the cost of living is generally lower in the countryside too.
• I think there will be a lot of pressure on politicians to reduce pollution and solve traffic problems. We can already see this. I think that city life will become healthier—though not as healthy as in most rural areas. I think that there will be more entertainment for people—an even wider variety of things to do than there are now. Many people think that the problem of overcrowding will be reduced or solved, but I doubt it. I think that there will be many more tall buildings. So, I think that city life will generally get better, but that there will still be some problems.
