The line chart traces the price of gold (in US dollars per troy ounce) throughout the year 2005.
The price of gold began at 430 dollars in January and fell to 415 dollars in February. This was the lowest point for the price of gold in 2005. The price then rose again to 450 dollars in March. This rise was followed by another fall in April to 430 dollars. The price of gold remained at this level in May before dipping slightly to 425 dollars in June before returning to 430 dollars in July. In August the price increased to 445 dollars, followed by a further slight increase to 450 dollars in September, thereby reaching the same price as in March, There was a sharp rise to 480 dollars per troy ounce in October, followed by a decline to 465 dollars in November. Thereafter, there was a massive increase in the price of gold to 540 US dollars per troy ounce in December.
To summarise, the price of gold fluctuated between 415 dollars and 450 dollars for the first nine months of the year. It then rose considerably, though not continuously, over the final three months of 2005.
