When new towns are planned, it is important to build more public parks or sports facilities than shopping centres for people to spend their free time.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?

答案 Over the past few decades, new towns have mushroomed around the world, in particular in developing countries. It is argued that, when new towns are planned, public parks or sports facilities are more helpful for citizens to kill their spare time than are shopping centres. I totally agree with this statement.
The primary reason in my favour is that recreational areas or sports equipment promises regular exercise, which is good for health. As we all know, the sedentary working style gives rise to various health problems and lack of exercise aggravates the situation. With more public parks or sports facilities available, those living nearby will find ideal ways to spend their free time, for example, by taking a stroll in the parks or doing athletic activities such as swimming and playing badminton. Obviously, improving physical health better suits the needs of modern people.
Another argument to support my view is that compared with shopping malls, parks and sports facilities are more frequently used and better means for people to relax. Under the pressure of intensive work, parents often have to work overtime, which reduces the time they spend with their children. By taking their children out for fresh air or playing sports with them, parents will definitely develop closer relationship with their children. In this sense, frequent visits to parks or regular use of sports equipment strengthens family ties, especially the one between parents and children.
Advocates of shopping malls may hold that shopping centres make it easier for shoppers to buy the stuff they need. However, online shopping is so convenient for people to buy almost whatever they can think of, thus making shopping centres in towns less desirable.
In conclusion, I opt for public parks and sports facilities since they not only enable people to improve their health, but also allow them to accompany their family members.
