答案     Education has been a crucial public issue for centuries. Some people deem that it is easier to be well-educated today than it was in the past. I agree with the statement and I have the following reasons.
    Firstly, the accumulation of knowledge paves the way for further educational progress. Our knowledge of the world is advancing on a daily basis. Today’s accumulation of knowledge is larger than that in any time of the history. The new knowledge acquired helps challenge stereotypes and broadens people’s view of the nature and human society.
    Secondly, today’s technologies, especially the Internet, play an indispensable role in disseminating knowledge. Technologies help people break the barrier of time and space: with a number of clicks on a laptop, one can get much more information than people did in a lifetime hundreds of years ago; one does not need to travel at all to read other people’s research papers or to learn about a science project on the other side of the earth. This unprecedented level of accessibility to knowledge provides an excellent opportunity for one to be well-educated. With modern technologies, people in geographically disadvantaged areas have equal access to knowledge. In other words, more people can be well-educated.
    Last but not least, public education is more open to the public, In the past, education was confined to rich people who can afford private tuition. Nowadays, an increasing number of countries provide compulsory education for free or at a minimum cost. As a result, the general public is entitled to receive primary education. Furthermore, the number of people who attend higher-education institutions is also growing annually, which proves that it is easier to be well-educated in today’s society.
    To conclude, I think today’s society provides more equal means to gain knowledge and more support for removing the financial and geographical shackles that hinder education. It is thus much easier than before to be well-educated. It is also worth noting that the improvement of gender equality over the past decades is of vital importance in offering women an equal opportunity to be well-educated, especially in developing countries.
