A leading opposition politician in Haiti Mr. Louis Dejoie has been released from prison after being held for 48 hours on a charge of inciting public disorder. He had been detained as he returned from the trip to the United States and Canada, where he was reported to have called for popular insurrection in Haiti to bring about what he called true democracy. As news of the decision to release him spread, several hundred people gathered outside the prison in Port-au-Prince. Troops dispersed them with rifle butts, but they regrouped to cheer Mr. Dejoie as he left. Another leading politician, Dr. Louijoie, was detained briefly when he returned to Haiti after accompanying Mr. Dejoie on the tour.
