问题 Who has kidnapped Chinese construction workers in Sudan? [br]
A group of Chinese construction workers abducted in Sudan were expected to be released within 48 hours, almost two weeks after they were taken hostage in a remote area of Sudan’s unstable South Kordofan state, Sudanese media reported Tuesday.
Khartoum’s Al-Ahdath daily said the International Committee of the Red Cross (1CRC) had successfully mediated for the release of the workers who were kidnapped on a site run by China’s Power Construction Corp. on January 28.
The Sudanese military said the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North, a rebel force in the border region with neighboring South Sudan, was responsible for the attack and kidnapping.
"The mediation led by the ICRC between Khartoum and Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) leaders has made important progress and expected to bear fruit within 48 hours," Sudanese media was quoted as saying by China’s state-run Xinhua news agency.
The rebels abducted 29 of the total 47 Chinese workers in the camp, while the other 18 workers fled to neighboring areas. The Sudanese army found 17 Chinese workers later and transported them to a safe place, but one worker is still missing.
