    It is a truth universally acknowledged that the desire for beauty is the nature of all human beings. Such desire is reflected in the rise of cosmetic surgery in recent years. For students in their immature and vulnerable years, however, cosmetic surgery may not be a wise choice since there are certain risks in taking such surgery and beauty is not just about physical appearance. In a word, I do not think high school and college students should take cosmetic surgery.
    The first reason of my belief is that cosmetic surgery is not entirely safe. Each surgery has its particular risks and side effects, which, though perhaps made clear to the patient beforehand, may not be a point of concern of inexperienced and curiosity-driven young people. This makes the surgery a potential threat to the health of youngsters. Furthermore, since young people usually do not have much money and might not be supported by their parents to take cosmetic surgery, they are inclined to choose small or even illegal clinics to take the surgery. This may also harm the well-being of young people as a whole. Putting the above two points into consideration, students should not take cosmetic surgery at the risk of their health.
    Additionally, the interpretation of "beauty" is multiple. Students should not be too obsessed with their physical appearance or regard it as the only way of defining beauty. A kind heart and a fine taste are also two alternative indicators of beauty, or specifically inner beauty. What is more, inner beauty is more valuable than outer beauty, as inner beauty is much harder to be acquired. For instance, you can take cosmetic surgery to boost your nose, but there is no clinical procedure available to transform you from a nasty person into a nice one. Even if you have an attractive appearance, you are at best good-looking. In order to be really beautiful, you should also have a good-natured heart. Therefore, if high-school and college students take cosmetic surgery prematurely, they are confining themselves to the superficial understanding of beauty, without giving full attention to the inner beauty which deserves more credits.
    To sum up, high school and college students should not take cosmetic surgery because of the high risk of health and the low-mindedness of narrow definition of beauty. As the famous saying goes, "beauty is only skin-deep". Older people should guide the young to form an informed and mature decision.
