问题     In some universities in China, computers in the dormitories are not allowed for freshmen, because the school authorities fear that the newly-enrolled students have difficulties in managing their time and freedom and they might waste them on computers. Do you agree or disagree with this policy banning the use of computers in the dormitories? Write an essay of about 400 words. You should supply an appropriate title for your essay.

Some universities in China prohibit freshmen from using computers in their dormitories, for fear that they might develop the Internet addiction This ban is received by most students with opposition and resentment I personally, however, welcome this ban on the use of computers in dormitories during the freshman year.
For starters, the existence of computers in a dormitory might obstruct students’ effective time management. The first year in college is a period of orientation during which students get accustomed to independent living and learning, making sense of university education and thus working out a schedule for the rest of the four years. Computers can serve as an efficient tool speeding up the process of academic research. If not properly used, however, they can aggravate procrastination, the thief of time. Your initial reason for logging online is to conduct some survey for a report due the next day, but then you get carried away by a newly released movie and your friends’ updates on Tweeter or Microblog. Before you know it, two hours have passed, leaving nothing but blankness in your Word file.
The second and most obvious danger of computers is the emission of health-threatening radiation. As mentioned above, once you turn on a computer, time seems to fleet away without you noticing it. Students easily caught in the Web are likely to spend half a day or even a whole day in front of this radiant machine, motionless except for a brief trip to the bathroom or reaching for snacks. This is especially true for the freshmen, who just get unlimited amount of time and freedom to deal with. By and by, unhealthy living habits such as prolonged sitting, excessive eating and lack of sleep are formed among the freshmen.
Apart from jeopardizing physical health, computers are also responsible for the production of indoorsy people. Infatuated with animations, online video games and social networks, indoorsy people seldom leave the house unless they run out of food or other necessities, which will gradually dull their social skills. The longer hours one spends on a computer, the less he/she is able to achieve successful communications with a real person. It’s therefore important that first-year students be liberated from this "cyber dependence" and encouraged to go outside and expand their life circles.
When young people first set foot in a university, everything appears fresh and novel to them. It will be partially the school’s responsibility to keep them in a real world, not lost in a virtual one.
