As for young students, microblog consumes time but it helps them keep up with the ever changing society; it might distract their study but offers a channel to share happiness and sorrows.     It’s reported that the Second Experimental Primary School in Nanjing pioneered the use of microblog in teaching through launching an official microblog and giving lectures on how to use microblog to students in primary Grade Four and above. This initiative receives many criticisms. Some people take it as an unnecessary distraction that will cost students’ childhood innocence on this platform of information explosion. As I see it, the advantages of microblog outweigh the disadvantages.
    To start with, microblog is virtual communities where people can keep in touch with old friends and make new acquaintances. It is free to be registered by people from every quarter of the globe, be they celebrities or common people. In China, as we know, young students are inclined to live in a limited circle of friends with their minds obsessed with textbooks and homework. Microblog enables them to communicate with celebrities they admire and people of the same interests while renewing friendships, notwithstanding the distance.
    What’s more, microblog sets up a platform for self-expression. Young students are in an awkward and rebellious period of adolescence when they tend to keep things to themselves. Microblog serves as an outlet for their pent-up thoughts and emotions. The Second Experimental Primary School’s pioneering use of microblog in teaching shows that students who are shy and introverted in class act vigorously when encouraged to post their questions on microblog. Apart from discussions on their study, students feel free and relaxed to update their status online, which offers a channel for parents to better understand their children.
    Finally, microblog provides students various information, which helps them to keep pace with changes in society. Nowadays, news on microblog spreads faster than that on papers. It is then natural that anyone who hasn’t registered a microblog might be looked down upon by his/her peers as a back number. Exhausting as it is to be bombarded by facts, statistics and news clips, students will gradually learn to distinguish between right and wrong, true and false. An alternative source of knowledge will be beneficial to their independent thinking as well. Thus, students will be able to shape their own values without relying wholly on school education.
    As the general trend indicates, micro blog is a platform leading to a macro world. Forbidding the use of microblog might drive young people to fall behind with the times. Weighing the pros and cons, it’s better to guide them onto the right way of using microblog, instead of depriving them of it.
