What can university students do to help curb global warming?
Global warming is a term always emerging in news headlines, which brings with it sensational statistics and horrible scenes. Undoubtedly, it is a serious and urgent problem for all of us living on the planet. As a university student, I firmly believe that each individual can do our own part to help address this problem.
Firstly, we should have enough education on global warming. It should be made clear that global warming is a fact actually happening, and tons of scientific statistics have proved that. We should learn more about what the mainstream science says about it and persuade others to make simple changes in daily life to help alleviate it. People should be educated to understand why some details in our daily life matter and how they can do something to help. If more and more people know the severeness of this issue, public awareness and consciousness will be aroused.
Secondly, we should shop local and buy less if necessary. Oil-burning and vehicle exhaust are the main sources of green gas. Produce and products made locally consume fewer amounts of oil and gas used in transportation chain. In other words, if we shop local, we can spare much carbon foot-prints, apart from saving money. What is more, if we pursue a simple lifestyle and purchase less, fewer products will be consumed. Since fewer product consumption mean less waste to some extent, we can help build a low-carbon world.
Thirdly, we should have the awareness of recycling. Many things can be recycled and reused. As some thinker said, me waste is just something valuable in wrong places. We can make the most of everything mat can be used more than one time. For instance, the blank side of a printed paper can be used again, food-class plastic containers can be washed and reused.
Fourthly, we can reduce the usage of biologically non-degradable items. Plastic bags, for example, are usually non-degradable although convenient to use. If we prepare shopping bags for ourselves, we don’t need to have plastic bags for holding shopped items. Thus, we help alleviate the pressure that the non-degradable waste poses on the natural environment.
In conclusion, we university students should do something in everyday life to help curb global warming. It is time for us to take action.
