答案                 Is ’Wolf Dad" Educational Method Feasible?
Recently, a man, calling himself "Wolf Dad", proudly claims that he physically beat all of his three kids into the prestigious Peking University. As a result, "Wolf Dad" educational method has spawned copycats in China, as media attention focused on the circus-like nature of animal training in "Chinese parenting". Wolf Dads claim that they are doing the right thing for the good of their children. As far as I am concerned, I don’t think the "Wolf Dad" educational method is feasible. There are two main reasons that can explain why parents would like to treat their children strictly.
For the one thing, I believe that "Wolf Dad" educational method comes out of a greater sense of ownership over their children. Wolf Dads focus on discipline, obedience and academic performance. They impose strict restrictions on their children and will beat them if they fail to meet parents’ standards.
For another, "Wolf Dad" method arises from parents’ fear and anxiety to the future of their children. Thus Wolf Dads are more severe in the treatment of their offspring to induce "success", which in the case of Chinese-style parenting means high score and admission to a top university. To parents, their children’s academic performance is a direct reflection on the success of their parenting. They stress performance in academic pursuits, and place a higher premium on discipline. Education carries a more significant meaning than just the mere acquisition of knowledge for knowledge’s sake. It’s true that a 10-point difference in the high school examination score can doom one to a life of poverty or lift one into a life of prosperity.
Respecting the above-mentioned facts, I insist that the "wolf dad" way is too extreme. I would like to suggest that we look beyond the styles and methods of child-raising and examine the real complex underlying reasons for why we want our children to succeed. Parents should raise their children in different methods according to the different qualities of their children rather than follow some so-called educational model blindly. If parents can recognize and own up to their own fears and anxieties about their performance, and disengage them from how we go about loving children and helping them to get the best education possible, perhaps parents can then finally be able to ensure children’s future long-term happiness.
