    The function of belief in our society is quite obvious, and the following are a few aspects where it plays an irreplaceable role.
    On the one hand, belief can help us go through difficult times. We simply can not expect an obstacle-free path before reaching our destination. In the course of our life, there will be difficulties or even times when we think it would be impossible for us to move forward. For example, a businessman whose ideas can not be accepted by the market, who runs out of money at the middle of his business plan, or a researcher whose experiment gets stuck and seems impossible to produce any measurable result would be confronted with this difficult situation. And the list can really go on and on, and we can all relate to one of the pictures presented at some point. At this moment, if we have a strong belief in our heart, we will finally get out of the darkness and reach our goals with the support and guidance of the strong motivational power.
    On the other hand, belief can serve as the aim and the purpose of our life in case we feel lost. Life can be reduced to a course to achieve the goal one has set up initially with great efforts. If this is the case, we may be faced with great difficulties before reaching our goals, and it is likely that we will feel at sea. If life is always the pursuit of the next goal, what would happen when we have finished all our goals? This would happen to a successful businessman who seems to have possessed everything he had dreamed of, and this would also be the case of those people who fail to actually find their own ways and instead just move around as they are told. We can also think of many other occasions when the aim and the purpose are missing for an otherwise complete life. What we need at that time is exactly belief. We need to understand not only what we are doing, but also, more importantly, why we are doing all those things.
    Moreover, belief can also provide us with a system for judgment when we think there is nothing we cannot do. There used to be a wide-spread cartoon describing the result when people lack a belief system. In the cartoon, a bunch of well-dressed business people are having a meeting, and one raises a question that seems to be impossible to answer, " Can we call in someone who can tell the right from the wrong?" These people are experts in their own fields when it comes to business opportunities and financial reward, but a simple judgment of right or wrong stands in their way. And what they lack here is a belief system to provide them with the urgently-needed criteria for judgment. There is also an urgent ne.ed for the inclusion of belief, moral and judgment in our educational system so that we will not produce those experts without belief.
    From the above analysis, we can come to a natural conclusion that belief is really something that we can not live without.
