      Nearly 75 percent of the earth’s surface is covered with water, but only a little part of fresh water can be used. With the population explosion and the rapid economic growth, a large part of the fresh water is consumed and polluted everyday. Hence, water shortage has become one of the most serious problems facing us today.
      Water plays an important role in human society. For one thing, water is essential to all living creatures. Without water, there would be no life on this planet. For another, the development of civilization relies on water. That is to say that water is fundamental in irrigation, power plants, industries, and so on. Furthermore, water provides Perfect ecosystem. In short, we cannot live without water.
     Keeping the importance of water in mind, we should take measures in order to protect the limited water resource. First of all, everyone should be aware to cherish water resource. Second, the efficiency of water usage should be improved. For example, polluted or used water can be cleaned or reused. To sum up, man should reasonably make good use of water.
