World leaders have gathered at the United Nations Headquarters in New York to discuss strategies to tackle global poverty—among them is Chinese premier Wen Jiabao. (26)During the three-day Millennium Development Goals (MDG) summit, leaders will hold talks on how to meet the target of having the amount of people living below the poverty line by 2015. (25) Chinese premier Wen Jiabao will give a keynote speech during the summit, outlining China’s efforts to achieve the MDG. UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon outlined his vision in his address to the opening session of the summit. "We have more development success stories than ever before. The transformative impact of the MDG is undeniable. This is an achievement we can be proud of, but we must protect these advances, many of which are still fragile." The summit will be followed by the annual eight-day United Nations General Assembly. Wen Jiabao is also set to meet with U.S. president Barack Obama.
