答案     Should Financial Support Only Be Provided for Scientific Research?
    It is presumed that science is more valuable in the contribution to economic development and national strength. Arts, however, are usually regarded as a luxury and fancy. Despite this, I think that financial support should also be provided for other fields, not exclusive for scientific research only.
    First of all, a healthy society needs the contribution of both science and arts. It is true that scientific invention will make our life easier, but the creative works in arts will make our life richer and fuller. For instance, the invention of computers transforms our way of communication, but a new type of art, by using mouse to draw a picture, also revolutionizes the traditional tools of "pencils and brushes". The funding for both science and arts thus fuel the twin engines of our life, which is made more convenient and more interesting. Secondly, funding the disciplines other than science will enable us to know more about ourselves and the world. Science is very useful in changing the world. Arts, however, provide insights into our inner self and the relationship between mankind and the world. In other words, scientific research produces more tools, but other research gives meaning and life to these tools and interprets their relationship with us.
    In conclusion, science and arts both deserve our funding, because they are worthy in their own unique way.
