   When we study a foreign language, it is very useful for us to go to the country in which the target language is spoken. In the foreign country, we are surrounded by the language that we are learning, and we are forced to use it whether or not we want, so we can learn more rapidly and easily.
   In terms of culture, second-hand experience is nowhere close to "experiencing the culture" in the native environment.
   In short, the best way to learn a language is to be with the native speakers and absorb the language that surrounds you, and the best way to know the local culture is to go to that country and meet the local people.

   Given that learning abroad does yield benefits, the question of " applicability " seems to be neglected. Students, with diverse academic interests and majors, might not need to get in touch with an exotic culture or acquire a foreign language, since a proficiency in a foreign language or an understanding of the local culture doesn’t necessarily lead to a bright future.

   Undeniably, studying in a foreign country to learn its language and culture is believed to be a rewarding experience because overseas study can let you immerse yourself in a country and really get to know the language as well as the culture from inside. However, many people contradict this statement by suggesting that studying abroad may lead to a great financial strain on your family and a brain drain in the homeland.
   Personally speaking, I deem this practice may not work for everyone. First and foremost, surrounded by people with a different culture, some overseas students may feel completely out of place and suffer from psychological problems, such as loneliness, homesickness and depression. Furthermore, young students’ early contact with society has made their parents’ concern mounted since some of them are too immature to resist the evil temptation and protect themselves. In addition, they may not only experience culture shock in different countries, but also suffer from the so-called reverse culture shock after returning to their motherland.
   To sum up, in spite of these positive possibilities, I think it’s neither practical nor feasible for all the students to learn a foreign language and culture abroad.
