M: Hi, Linda! I haven’t seen you for a long time. What have you been busy with?
W: Hi, Jack. I got a job interview coming up, and I know they’re going to ask me about what are my strong points and weak points.
M: Yeah, that’s tough.
W: Yeah. Well, let’s talk about that. What are your strong points as a person?
M: Ah, let’s see. Well, I think the biggest one is I’m pretty generous. I really don’t care about money, so I’ll give my friends money or things that I have, because I just don’t care about that. Um, so that’s probably my strong point. My weak points are I am late all the time, and sometimes I’m a little selfish. I want things my way, and only my way.
W: So do you use that expression, "It’s my way or the highway!"
M: I would never say that, but that’s maybe how I think sometimes.
W: That’s how you feel inside, yeah.
M: How about you? What are your strong points and weak points?
W: Well, one of my weak points, I can say, much like you, is being late. But since I’ve had a long-term boyfriend, he’s made sure that part of me has changed. I think another one of my weak points is that, uh, I’m mentally disorganized (缺乏条理的), so that sometimes it makes me forget things like my keys, or you know, where I put an important piece of paper or something like that.
M: Sometimes I wonder that maybe more people are that way today, because we have so much input, so much stimulus (刺激) from TV, from the Internet, from movies and from radio that we are not as mentally organized as people 50 years ago.
W: Yeah, that could be possibly true. But most of my close friends say that I’m more disorganized in that way, or more chaotic (混乱的) than most people, so I think I’m a special case. You know, I lost my wallet about four or five times in the past year.
M: That’s pretty bad. Um, what are your strong points though?
W: Well, that’s putting me on the spot (使某人难堪). That’s a pretty difficult question, because it’s difficult to talk about yourself, but, uh, I would have to say that I’m friendly and easy-going.
M: Yeah, I agree actually.
W: And, uh, I think I can get along with people well, so, that would be my strong point; easy-going, friendly and easy to get along with.
M: Right. It is really an important personality in current society. I’m sure you will be popular no matter where you are.
W: Oh, thank you.
M: Nice talking with you. See you next Monday!
W: See you.
