问题     With China’s rapid economic developments, environmental damage has become a pressing issue in society. It calls for efforts not only from the government, but also from individuals. In the country’s capital, there is a non-governmental organization, the Global Village of Beijing, which plays an active role in promoting a green community and environmental awareness.
Fifty year-old Liao Xiaoyi is the founder of the Global Village. She says her organization aims to bring public awareness on the importance of protecting the environment and preventing its further decline. In 1993, Liao was a visiting scholar of International Environmental Politics at the University of North Carolina in the United States. Committed to developing environmental education in China, she returned to Beijing two years later and founded the Global Village of Beijing in 1996. She was head of a media production company before she went to the United States. At that time we were shooting a TV documentary called "Green Civilization and China". When she went to attend the University of North Carolina, one of her friends continued producing for the company. Later he told her that he could no longer continue the work because he was too busy with other projects. She thought then that she had to go back to China for. the company though she had an opportunity to do her PHD at the school. "I couldn’t give up the documentary project. I knew how serious the state of the environment was in China at that time. But it seemed that the media didn’t report on those issues often enough."
After returning to China, Liao Xiaoyi had not only completed her documentary on the environment, but also realized her two dreams. One was establishing the Beijing Global Village Environmental and Cultural Centre, now called the Global Village of Beijing. The second was putting on a series of special programs on China Central Television. Between April of 1996 and March of 2001 her organization had produced three hundred shows for a weekly television program called "Time for the Environment" on CCTV-7.
In addition, the Global Village of Beijing had sponsored a number of campaigns to bring public attention to environmental issues and ways to address those problems. In December, 1996, the Global Village helped a neighborhood committee in western Beijing set up the city’s first garbage-sorting site. And in April 22nd, 2000, the Global Village, in association with other rganizations, launched a number of activities to mark Earth Day. They called on people to be more nvironmentally friendly and promote sustainable development.  [br] Where is Beijing’s first garbage-sorting site located?
