Most single-parent families result when a marriage ends in divorce. (29)In most cases the divorced parents decide who will have the children. (30)About 85 percent of the children live with their mother after divorce. However. more divorced men want their children to live with them. Sometimes a divorce causes a dispute about who will care for the children. In these cases a judge decides. In an increasing number of disputes, a judge orders that both parents share the children. Usually the children will live with one parent, and both the mother and father will take part in decisions affecting them.
