More than 20 ancient Chinese dynasties have established their capitals in Henan. In China’s seven great ancient capitals, there are three located in Henan: Anyang, the Shang Dynasty’s capital, Luoyang, the capital of nine dynasties, and Kaifeng, the capital of seven dynasties. Three of ancient China’s four great inventions, the compass, paper-making and gunpowder, were made in Henan. The Yellow River, with numerous ancient relics and scenic attractions, provides Henan another rich tourist resource.
